《做一个学生喜欢的老师——我的为师之道》一书是特级教师于永正先生的“封笔”之作。我认真拜读了这本书，正如于永正先生自己在书的前言中所说：“本书是我对自己从教五十多年的较为全面的总结。读者从中可以看出我的教育观、语文观、学生观，乃至于我的性格、为人和其他的方方面面。”尤其是书中的第五章《行无言之教》部分对我的触动颇深，受益颇多。
这一章的开篇便引用了老子的话：“圣人处无为之事，行不言之教。”而其中的“不言之教”指的就是“身教”。身教的力量和影响是巨大而深远的，“身教”无痕，而且于老师认为这种影响在小学阶段尤为显著。因此于老师说：“老师就是一本教科书——一本学生天天看的‘无字之书’。”
接着于老师指出作为一名语文老师，对学生潜移默化、影响深远的“无言之教”有如下几个方面：
一是字。“当老师的（尤其是语文老师），能写一手好字，第一节课就能赢得学生的好感。”于老师在书中说道：“我的老师和我的语文教学经验告诉我，写字的意义太大了，小学生要写好字。”于老师强调练字要成为教师备课的重要内容，每课要求学生写的字，自己必先照着字帖练；要板书的词语，也要练，力求让板书的字成为学生的“字帖”。要琢磨每个字的间架结构，看准每笔的`起笔、落笔，不把每个字练好，不会善罢甘休。
二是朗读。于老师说自己备课除了练字，还练朗读，而且练朗读花的工夫比练字多得多。“朗读受朗读者智力、能力、感受力、表现力、道德情操、审美情趣的制约，所以教师要加强修养，提高自己的综合素养。”教师如能达到“见文生情”的朗读水平，即便不讲朗读技巧，只是一遍一遍地读给学生听，然后让学生一遍一遍地跟读，时间久了，学生的朗读水平也会自然而然地跟着提高。
教师要奉献全部光和热。教师要不断学习，剔除以往教育内容和教育手段中陈旧的落后的东西，采取现代化的的教育方法和手段，去教育和引导学生。教师必须勤学不辍，不断充实自己。知识贫乏是不称职的教师，对教育事业不忠诚是失职的教师。教师要大力开发学生的聪明才智，让每个学生身上的才华都放射出灿烂的光彩，让每个学生身上蕴藏的智慧火花，都炽烈的燃烧起来。
教师要有自制力。自制力是意志的一个重要方面。对于教师来说，具有自制力，善于控制自己的情感，行为能够约束自己的动作、语言，抑制无意的激情和冲动，这既是职业修养中不可缺少的的心理品质，也是教育技巧高低的尺度。冷静是智慧的源泉，急躁是无能的表现。教师在盛怒时，要学会忍耐，压抑脾气，心平气和的跟学生对话。
