东湖梅园，位于磨山西南自然起伏的湖岛山丘，依山傍水，那里古木参天，风景秀丽。梅园现有梅花一万五千余株，品种309个，花海如潮，暗香四溢，素有雪海香涛之称，既是中国梅花研究中心所在地，又是我国四大梅园之一。
来到梅园的大门，首先映人眼帘的是两个圆柱子上的一幅：“梅可赏心练影暗香痴心醉，园堪屈指青山绿水画兼诗。”这是诗人对赏梅时心情的另一种境界吧。大门前方摆放着一排鲜花怒放的梅花，它们在迎接着四面八方的客人。
进入梅园后，第一眼看到的是一面墙，墙上刻着毛爷爷正在赏花的景情。再往里走，是古梅园，园内分古梅花区和古蜡梅区，园内还有来自全国各地的百年古梅呢！
走进园中，满园全是梅花，有红的、白的、黄的，还有绿的，最耀眼的是红白相间、红绿相伴的梅花，它们有的绽开了笑脸，有的含苞欲放。走近一点，一阵阵清香扑鼻而来，啊，真香！ 沿着弯弯曲曲的\'小路来到了展览馆，一座高大的“宫殿”呈现在眼前，门两边有迎客的主人——梅花，那绽开的花瓣如同张张笑脸，争着向游人吐芳献媚。这里的梅花盆景格外美丽，都是园艺工人们的巧手做出来的。
再向前走就是一片宽阔的草地，当你走累时，可以在温暖的阳光下，坐在平坦的草地上休息，还是野餐的好地方。
