一天，森林里来了一头庞然大物——大象，它高得像一堵墙，长着一条长长的鼻子，两只锋利无比的象牙，样子可怕极了！小动物们一看到它，就四处逃窜。有的边逃边喊：“快跑啊，怪物来啦！快跑啊！”有的甚至吓得晕了过去，有的……只有小猴和小兔不慌不忙，它们决定打探清楚，它到底是什么人？于是，它俩就壮着胆子，走了过去，问道：“你…好，我是小猴皮皮，我是小兔爱爱，请问你是……？”“你们好！我叫多多，我是世界漫游者，我能不能在这里借宿几天呢？”多多恳求地说。“可以啊！”皮皮客气地回答。多多就在这里住了下来。
就在这一天夜里，突然，下起了倾盆大雨，河里的水越涨越高，小兔的房屋被河水冲走了，连小兔也被冲进了河里。它在水里一边挣扎一边说：“救命啊！救命啊！”这叫声被大象多多听见了，它冥思苦想，突然，一拍脑子说：“我不是可以利用鼻子把小兔卷上来吗？”它马上走上前去把小兔卷上来。得救的小兔连忙说：“谢谢你！多多。”它挠挠头说：“这是我应该做的。”这时，小动物们觉得大象一点都不可怕，还挺热心的嘛！
时间过得很快，大象在森林里住了好一段日子，跟小动物们相处得很融洽，但它还要去漫游世界，只能依依不舍地和小兔它们告别了。小动物们都很舍不得它，大象挥挥手说：“再见了，以后有时间我会再来看你们的。”就这样，大象怀着依依不舍的心情，离开了森林。

非洲象和亚洲象有相同之处，也有不同之处。相同的是，它们不管是雄象还是雌象都会长出象牙。而且它们的耳朵都像一把蒲扇一样又长又圆。不同的是，亚洲象睡觉时是站着的，而非洲象只能卧下睡。不然它们就不能安然地进入梦乡。
非洲象出生以后，哺乳期大约为两年的时间。长到十二岁至十五岁时，才到了“婚配”的年龄。二十四岁至二十六岁时才会停止长个。
在陆地上的哺乳动物中，大象的***期是比较长的，一年半至两年才能生下小象。这小象一落地，就有一米高二百来斤重。在自然界里，象的繁殖率比较低，大约要相隔五，六年的时间才生育一次。它们能活多长时间呢?在正常情况下，大象可以活到六十岁，只有少数大象可以活到一百岁。
非洲象每天吃下重达体重的6%的食物。也就是说，一只四千五百斤重的公象，一天会吃掉270公斤的食物。非洲大象喜欢群居。一般是二十至三十头为一群，有的甚至是几百头为一群。这些大象生活在一起，活动有一定的范围，有一定的路线，出去找食物一般在早上或晚上。
