剧中的“老赖”贾有道做着自己的小生意，经济条件较好，本该过着衣食无忧的生活。人大代表的身份，让他本可以在做好自己本职工作的情况下，为更多的人发言发声谋福利。但他却把国家、人民赋予他的权力作为自己投机倒把、转移财产的保护伞，欠帐不还，失去了做人的根本准则。然而，法网恢恢、疏而不漏，法律面前，人人平等，他最终自食恶果，得到了应有的惩罚。
对于执法者也一样，法律赋予他们的权力是为了更好地为人民服务，要时时刻刻把维护人民的合法权益放在首位。人们常说：法治的最后一公里是执行，似乎执法最终就是法官和警察的事。但影片告诉我们：为了贾有道一个案子的执行，不仅要消耗大量人力和物力，还要考虑到被执行人应有的种种权益以及与被执行人有社会关系的无辜群众的权益等等，整个执法的过程更需要我们每个公民尊法、守法和敬法，共同维护法律的尊严。

剧中的“老赖”贾有道其实是有偿还债务的能力，但却想尽办法抵赖，甚至将老母亲拿来做“挡箭牌”。此外，影片还增加了“朗诵会”这一叙事线，表现出贾有道在欠巨额债务不还的情况下，居然还赞助“朗诵会”，而且是朗诵与诚信有关的诗歌。这样的反差对比极赋讽刺意义，把一个虚伪、可憎又有些可怜的“老赖”形象展现的淋漓尽致。如果他把债款还掉，也不至于落得如过街老鼠，人人喊打的份。我们从贾有道的故事中可以看出，有些事必须做，否则做再多的事情也于事无补。
影片中另一个关键人物是贾有道的女朋友姚晶。她年轻漂亮，有自己的聪明才智，却选择跟贾有道在一起，并费尽心机欺骗对方，用一句话来总结她的人生，便是“机关算尽太聪明，反误了卿卿性命”，最终又被宋老板设计骗光了钱财。在这么一个无德无信的人身上浪费了大把的青春，到头来却落得一场空，锒铛入狱。我们从她身上得到的结论是，绝不能做不该做的事情。
因此，得与失的距离就在于分清哪些事情该做，哪些事情不该做，哪些事情必须做，哪些事情绝不能做。我们要能够有清晰的辨析能力，把握好分寸，他们的事例是这样，对于我们在生活中、工作中亦是如此。
