许多学生在读一读后由衷地发出了感叹：原来我们的生活中经常用到大数，这些大数末尾的0真多呀，读起来太麻烦了，而且很容易数错0的个数。此时，学生置身于“口欲言而弗达，心求通而弗能”的“愤悱”境地，他们真正到改写大数的必要性。他们的心理上生成了一种强烈的认知冲突。认知冲突既会激起学生激烈的思维振荡，又会引起学生学习需要的不平衡，情感领域中便会生成一种乐于学习、主动参与探索、渴求获取问题解决办法的心理倾向，从而为进一步学习在知识、思维、情感等方面蓄积了良好的准备态势，为促进学生在积极参与学习活动的过程中获得主动的、最大限度的发展奠定了坚实的基础。这时，我指出：遇到较大的数，为了读、写简便，我们常常用“万”或“亿”作单位记出来。那么整万的数怎样改写成以“万”为单位的数呢？我让学生自主讨论、相互交流。在后续的学习中，学生一直处于积极主动的学习状态，他们争先恐后地发表自己的想法，然后由学生得出“去掉个级的4个0，写上单位万。”
数据的改写是对数据表示形式的变化，它的大小并没有发生变化。在改写过程中我注重向学生说明改写后为什么要写计数单位的.道理。启发学生思考5000000和500万的关系，并把自己看法跟同桌交流，然后把理由说给全班同学听。使学生明确等号左边的数是以“个”为单位，一般以“个”为单位就不写计数单位了。而等号的右边是以“万”为单位，如果这个计数单位不写，那么就会变成以“个”为单位，这样两者之间就会相差很大。这些道理，可以结合具体的情景加以说明，以便学生在理解的过程中减少错误。
数学来源于生活，学生的生活中有许多数学问题，只有让学生在熟悉的、感兴趣的问题情境中，才能感悟、学习、和理解数学知识。因此，在初步探究完如何将一个大数改写成以万为单位得数后，我让学生自主发挥，自己先写一个整万的数，然后将它改写成以万为单位的数，这就大大激发了学生的兴趣，(然后，我又趁势让他们给同桌出一道这样的题，互相交流，互相判断，这就在检验孩子们的知识是否巩固，是否能自主进行正确检查。最后，又让孩子们写一个以万为单位的数，改写成生活中的大数，逆向思维得到训练。这个环节对于突破、重难点起到了很好的促进作用。数学课程标准强调“尊重学生已有的知识与经验”。学习改写成用“亿”作单位的数，学生运用迁移规律，很快就掌握了改写方法。
