1947年，阔别故土12年的钱学森回到上海，此时，他已是麻省理工学院最年轻的终身教授，意气风发。一回上海，他就成了许多大家闺秀父母哄抢的“唐僧肉”。
蒋英回忆说：“人家知道蒋家和钱家私交甚密，纷纷托我和我妹妹，安排自己女儿和他见面。”索性，蒋英姐妹几个为钱学森安排了一场相亲会;出乎大家的意料，当晚，钱学森的目光，只停留在当年的黄毛丫头蒋英一个人身上。
