通过学习，我知道了，它之所以能指引方向，是因为地球本身就有磁场，而指南针就是一块磁铁，能以“同性相斥，异性相吸”的原理来指明方向。由于地球的磁场是不变的，所以，指南针的某一端会一直指向南方。（先是从理论上搞清楚“指南针为什么能指引方向”实验，就是要以实践活动验证某一理论或推测。）

可是，当只有一根大头针而没有磁铁时，你怎么办？听说拿大头针在头发上磨一磨也能当指南针，这是真的吗？实践出真知，让我们来试一试。（在没有磁铁的情况下自制指南针。）
首先，把大头针在头发上磨几下（根据摩擦原理），然后把大头针插进一块泡沫里，放在水面上，大头针转了几圈后，便一端指着南面不动了。（简要介绍制作方法。）我把插着大头针的.泡沫转到另一个方向，结果它还是转回了南面。（制作的结果，成功了。——这一段是写实验过程。）
看来这个方法是可行的，可这是为什么呢？我上网去搜索相关资料。原来，摩擦会产生静电，而电会产生磁场，磁场使非本有磁性物变得有磁性，大头针从而就可以变成指南针了。当然，只有金属制品才可以达到这样的效果。（介绍其原理。与文章第二段所介绍的指南针原理相呼应。）
