唐朝诗人唐庚曾写道：“山僧不解数甲子，一叶落而知天下秋。”这是朴素的、高明的见解。山中僧人超脱尘世，本也无需弄清是子丑寅卯，还是申酉戌亥。粗知四季更替，阴阳交换便足矣。窥一叶萌发而知岁之临春，见一叶飘落而知岁之将秋，这是僧人的'正确推理。
人世间的落叶似乎春夏秋冬都有。花卉树木都具有独特的物性：或见春叶损，或经夏叶落，或临秋叶飘，或遇冬叶凋。“人间四月芳菲尽，山寺桃花始盛开。”白居易从地势高下的不同，看到了物性的不同。“岭娇(两广一带微草，凌冬不凋；并汾（山西一带）乔木，望秋先陨。”沈括从区域南北的不同，看到了物性的不同。看来观察“落叶”也要注意多换换视角，何况还有随时都会飘落的病叶。“闲云生不雨，病叶落非秋。”这无名氏的诗句便是对世间凡人的忠告。
见一叶落可以得出“是秋”或“非秋”的两种可能性。我们既要有“见一叶落”而知“无边落木萧萧下”的推理能力，又需谨防“见一叶落”而必是，’秋”的错误判断。
小姑娘的错误论断于己于人还有“可爱”、“天真”之处。但是，如果你我也这么“天真”起来，那恐怕不是“可爱”而是“可怕”和“危险”了。
因为，四季都会有落叶，年复一年，永远会有。

even if such a catastrophe would not happen, there would be a great temperature difference on the two hemispheres of the earth, and the four seasons of the year would no longer occur because a day and a night would be as long as a whole year instead of 24 hours. all this would greatly affect the life of human beings, imals and plants and that would cause worse results than anything imaginable.
