这本书的主人公是保尔柯察金，保尔被老师神甫赶出学校后，在一次偶然的相遇中，他与冬妮亚结为朋友。他在装配工朱赫来的引导下，懂得了布尔什维克是为穷人争取解放的革命政党。他依依不舍得告别了冬妮亚，逃离了家乡，加入了红军，成为了一名坚强的布尔什维克战士。但是他的身体状况每况俞下，右腿变成残废，脊椎骨的暗伤也越来越严重，最后终于瘫痪了。但他并没有不此而沮丧，而且开始了他的艰难的写作生涯，从此有新生活的良好开端。
我相信所有看过这本书的人都会非常敬佩保尔不畏病魔侵扰和不怕命运挫折的百折不挠的革命精神。他时刻都在为革命事业而奋斗。他有一次不幸染上了伤寒，他凭他那坚强的毅力，奇迹般地从死亡线上走了回来了，重新义无反顾地走向火热的工作岗位。
