首先，老师在黑板上写好讨论会的题目，然后派两个代表抽签。我们的代表抽到反方。只听老师一声令下，激烈的讨论会便开始了。正方先发言，刚一开始，就给了我们一个下马威，说：“刘开渠说过，书是人类精神文明的结晶。的确，书籍是人类在经过不断探索`实践`创新的过程中知识的总结。我们不懂`不知道的东西可以从书中获取，它能使我们增长知识，开阔视野，它是获取知识的重要途径。”正方的观众奉送有的鼓掌，有的拍桌子，有的欢呼起来。
我们反方也不甘示弱，反驳说：“刘向说过，书犹药也，那么药肯定有两种，一种是良药，而另一种则是毒药，良药可以伴你前行，而毒药则会使你看少儿不宜的书，不能自拔。”我方同学更使劲鼓掌。
正方又反驳道：“我们已经XX年级了，有自控能力，所以我们认为开卷有益。”正方观众们又鼓起了掌。
我方毫不气馁，说：“有些同学，不会选择时间看，上课看闲书，导致学习成绩下降。”
老师部：“谁呀！”
我方同学一下子转过身，边指边说：“潘xx！”
激烈的讨论会就在我们的欢呼声中结束了。我总结了一下，如果要真正实现“开卷有益”的话，只有明确目的，有选择地读，还要注意读书的方法才行。

我们一、二组是正方，三、四组是反方。首先，由我们正方发言，我方一位同学先站起来说：“我认为开卷有益，因为很多名人都是因为从书中吸取了许多的知识，获得了成功的啊。”反方的一位同学立即站起来反驳，举出了一些因看书而***人、行凶的事例。听到这里我也坐不住了，我站起来用我收集的观点辩论：“尽管你可以举出因看书而堕落，疯狂，行凶犯法的事例。那这又能说明什么呢？只能说明是看书的`人自己本身心态就不正。那属于心态问题，不能归咎于书。难道有人拿刀***人能怪刀不好吗”我这一说反方无话可说了，只好把话题转到了书本的内容不堪入目等等。
只见反方又有一位同学站起来说：“假设有种坏书，内容不堪入目，文章布局全盘错误，满篇病句错句错字……直到没有优点可寻，这样的书我们也能看吗？”我又噌得一下站起来，激动得说：“但是你想过没有，即使存在这种书，有人能看得懂吗？会去看吗？既然不会去看，那么连‘开卷’这个前提都没有了，如何来谈开卷是否有益或有害呢”
反方仍不示弱，又一个马上站了起来……我们的辩论赛越来越激烈，越来越精彩。我也从这次辩论赛中知道了读书自然有好处，但是还是要选对自己有益的书来看的道理。

如果说，开卷使人进步，那么三国时的吕蒙最能证明这一点。吕蒙从小就没机会读书，后来身经百战。有一回吴王孙权对他说：“你现在都掌权管事了，要好好学习，求得进步啊。”吕蒙听了孙权的劝告，努力学习，进步好快。以至于与鲁肃见面时，鲁肃感慨的说：“士别三日，当刮目相看，你以不是当年在孙权下的吕蒙了。”
高尔基说过：“书籍是人类进步的阶梯。”多读书，就会增长知识。爱迪生不就是一个例子吗？他读了很多书，从中得到了启发，又进行了大量的实践，才发明出来电灯。
我过汉代刘向曾说过：书犹药也，善读可以医愚。但大家想过没有，书是药，那么药也分两类：⒈是良药能治病；⒉是毒药能致死。第一类指得是好书，第二类指坏书。当大家看了坏书时就像吃了毒药，就毁了你的前程。这样看来，你们又怎能说开卷有益呢？比如说一个心术不正的人看书，不管看什么书，他吸收的总是不好的语言和思想。相反，是一个素质极好的人看书，他就会有选择性地看书，而且还会去吸取精华，把好句好段和好的思想吸收了，不好的语言和思想就会被他像废物似的被抛弃。
人们常说：“开卷有益，看书有益。”但是，仔细一推敲，这种说法也不完全正确。还有些人被书中的一些情节所吸引，模仿书中的人物，有时还会走向犯罪的道路。这不是看书害了自己吗？
英国作家菲尔丁所云：“不好的书也像不好的朋友，可能会把你戕害。我认为：如果盲目开卷，未必有益。如不加选择地开卷，总会事倍功半，害多益少！所以，我希望大家切记，开卷是未必有好处的，因为没有一个人是十全十美的。也没有一本书的内容是全部正确的。
