梅城镇位于湘中，属安化县的一个重镇，这里人杰地灵，风光秀丽。如果到此游玩，梅城孔圣庙是最不应该错过的景点，它是益阳市仅存的且保存完好的一座古庙，具有较高的历史价值和艺术价值，孔圣庙坐落于安化县一中校园内，建于清代道光年间，原名崇圣祠，又称文庙，距今已有180余年历史。孔圣庙布局严谨，建筑精巧，外表宏伟壮观，庙内幽静素雅，总面积3111平方米。
参观孔圣庙，从棂星门进入，首先映入眼帘的是一个月牙状的池塘，人称月牙塘，池水不深，清澈见底，落叶砾石历历可数。塘边有梧桐数株，高大挺拔。树下有一排石墩，方的圆的相间，错落有致，大约是为了方便勤奋学子在树下讨论、池边读书之用。从池边到大门，中间有一块小坪，两旁放置盆景，以菊花为主，若到秋天，各色菊花争相斗艳，别有一番情趣。
登上三级台阶，便是中院门，分为三道。中间为大成门，形制高大，气势雄伟，左为金声门，右为玉振门。门左为名宦祠，右为乡贤祠，现在是安化一中校友会书法协会等的活动场所，算是“屋”尽其用。
跨进中院门，就是殿前天井，这里风光秀丽，景物宜人。院内空地120平方米，左边有一圆形花台，内植金桂一株，树干粗壮，需两人合抱。金桂古老苍劲，枝繁叶茂，想那金秋十月，桂花开放，香飘十里，也许整个梅城人都沉醉在这桂香之中了。右边花台，原本有一株银桂，不知何时损毁，现栽种一株小桂树，也有20余年了。其余空地也都栽植各种花草树木，或四季青，或兰草，或黄杨木，均是左右对称，布局整齐。
穿过天井，就上了拜台，台阶处有一斜面，乃是由一块五尺见方的整石雕刻而成，上雕龙纹图案，虽经百余年风雨，却依然清晰生动、活灵活现。拜台周边由石柱、石栅围着，石柱皆精雕花鸟图案，古朴美观。
拜台之上，就是大成殿。大成殿为孔庙的主体建筑，檐角高翘，龙凤绕梁，上盖黄色琉璃瓦，檐角饰龙、凤、狮、麒麟，金碧辉煌，庄重古朴，气派非凡。廊柱一抱围粗，下置圆形石墩，柱身红漆斑驳，显出岁月沧桑。殿门之前，端放孔子塑像，神态庄严。塑像上方，挂一牌匾，上书：百年树入。进入大殿，正中供奉着“大成至圣先师孔子”牌位，两旁供着孑L子的弟子贤人，堂上高悬着清朝康熙皇帝御笔题写的“万世师表”金字匾额，供后人瞻仰。仰望殿顶，雕梁画柱，蟠龙彩凤，栩栩如生，古色古香。
走出大成殿，进入后院，是亚圣孟子的殿堂，殿前有天井、拜台、石墩、石凳，还有一棵金桂树，让亚圣能时时闻到花香。
最后，还有一处景致就是***曾经住过的房间。一代伟人***，在1917年与1926年两次来安化游历考察，都落脚于孔圣庙。伟人住过的房间，屋内布置还保持当年的模样，床、桌、凳，连棉被枕头，似乎都是当年的样式。伟人与当地夏老先生的妙对，至今仍为人们津津乐道。老先生出上联：“绿杨枝头鸟声声，春到也，春去也。”“青草池塘蛙句句，为公乎，为私乎？”***的下联表现了他博大的胸怀。
从孔圣庙出来，来到培英楼，回望孔圣庙，在夕阳照耀下，在金光辉映中，仿佛听到了琅琅的书声，仿佛闻到了飘来的桂香……
