从前，有一只琵琶鱼叫小善。它的头上长了一盏“小灯”。因为这盏小灯不是像其它琵琶鱼那样捕食小鱼，而是用来给深海中的各种小鱼照明的，所以大家都叫这只琵琶鱼“小善”。
它住在泰坦尼克号沉船旁的石堆中，石堆边生长着一丛海葵，海葵中住着小善的好朋友小丑鱼小琪。
一天，小琪约小善去深海游乐贸易街玩。小善和小琪去它们最爱玩的打地鼠机边，小善让小琪先玩，小琪玩得不亦乐乎时，突然，臭名昭著的“海底狼”大白鲨游了过来，大家都被吓跑了。因为小琪的游泳速度慢，小善的游泳速度快，为了不让大白鲨吃掉小琪，小善只好让小琪躲进自己的嘴巴里。小善带着小琪飞快的向泰坦尼克号沉船游，游了好一会儿，小善感觉到自己的体力快不支了，想补充点食物，虽然小善是肉食动物，小琪正好它的美味，但是小琪是小善的好朋友，小善也不忍心***生，就啃食了旁边的海藻充饥。终于，小善看见了泰坦尼克号沉船，便加快了速度，飞快的游向泰坦尼克号沉船。
它们终于逃过了大白鲨的魔爪。小琪从小善的嘴巴里出来，感激的说：“谢谢你，小善”，本来，虽然小善很善良，不吃小鱼，可是小善毕竟是食肉兽，所以有一些小鱼还是害怕小善，经过这件事之后，大家都和小善和睦相处了。

池塘里，小蝌蚪和小鱼在一起游来游去，形影不离。
有一天，小蝌蚪突然自惭地说：“小鱼姐姐，我们为什么长这个模样呢——大脑袋，黑灰色的身子，长着一条长长的尾巴”
小鱼说：“这难道不好吗?我们都很喜欢呢。”
在小鱼的鼓励下，小蝌蚪似乎忘记了自卑。可是过了一段时间，小蝌蚪又长出了两条后腿。它觉得事情更是古怪，心想：“上帝怎么这么爱作弄人呢?我们本来就长得够丑的了，现在居然又长出两条后腿，这不是都成了丑八怪吗?”整天整天，它都在暗地里长吁短叹。
小鱼看到这个情形，又主动地走过去对小蝌蚪说：“长出两条后腿有什么不好吗?我们都求之不得呢?要是我们也长出这样的腿呀，哼!我看我们将来就要冲破这水的局限，跳出水面，到陆地上去谋发展啦!”
一席话，说得小蝌蚪不再唉声叹气了，而且完全沉浸在小鱼姐姐述说的美好憧憬里。
就是后来，它又长出了两条前腿，尾巴变短了，它也见怪不怪。因为它觉得在小鱼姐姐的眼里，它都是美的。
果然，到后来，小蝌蚪变成了青蛙，跳出了水面，在陆地上大显身手，成了保护庄稼的卫士，但它不忘常到池塘里去看看，看看曾经给它自尊与自信的小鱼姐姐。
