在我的印象中，我不记得这部动画是怎么开始的，也不记得这部动画是怎么结束的，我也不记得看过多少，我之所以写它的影评，一方面是我的爸爸也爱看这部动漫，另一方面就是我从中感到了快乐。
《猫和老鼠》完全以闹剧为特色，情节十分热烈。汤姆是一只常见的家猫，它有一种强烈的***，总想抓住与它同居一室却难以抓住的老鼠杰瑞，它不断地努力驱赶这些讨厌的房客，但总是遭到失败。而实际上它在追逐中得到的乐趣远远超过了捉住老鼠杰瑞，即使偶尔捉住了杰瑞，结果也不知究竟该怎么处置这只老鼠！
这个机灵老鼠与笨猫的故事，没有动物世界中恃强凌弱的残酷，只有两个邻居之间的日常琐事和纷争，诸如小老鼠杰瑞偷吃了汤姆的奶酪，汤姆把捕鼠器放到了杰里的洞门口等等，中间穿插的无数恶作剧和幽默片断，让人感受到久违的天真快意。它们之间的关系常在一瞬间发生变化——化敌为友或势不两立：为敌时绞尽脑汁，互不相让；为友时亲如兄弟，谁也不记仇。
在短片中，汤姆往往以一只被主人娇坏了的蓝色或灰色家猫形象出现,眼睛里总是闪着机会主义的光芒，弓着腰在一旁等待机会出击，杰瑞是一只常常和汤姆作邻居的棕色小老鼠，总是用挑逗的眼神看着你，并且常常在不经意期间玩弄这只猫。汤姆易怒而敏感，杰瑞则独立且投机。精力过剩而顽固的汤姆通常被拥有聪明大脑的杰瑞算计。在每集动画片的结尾，杰瑞常被表现为洋洋得意的胜利者，汤姆则是悲壮的失败者。但是，也有可能出现别的结局，比如汤姆会获得胜利。有些时候，颇具讽刺意味的是，他们都失败了。甚至有一集中，在圣诞节，汤姆往往救了杰瑞的命，或者与杰瑞分享礼物。

音乐在短片里扮演了非常重要的角色，即强调了动作及传达适当的情感。音乐导演斯科特·布拉德利创造出的多元音乐通常融合了古典、爵士和流行音乐；布拉德利经常采用当代的流行歌曲，有时也改编米高梅公司的电影原声诸如《绿野仙踪》（1939年）和《青春乐》。
它采用的哑剧形式，完全依靠滑稽动作而不用对白，与《米老鼠和唐老鸭》相比，后者的故事究竟表述什么，有时并不容易搞清，而《猫和老鼠》的哑剧却明白直观，给观众的印象极其鲜明深刻。《米老鼠和唐老鸭》风靡世界几十年，其造型、配音以及强大的宣传起了重要的作用，但是观看过后仍然记忆犹新，而《猫和老鼠》几乎没有对白，靠的完全是生动的形象与情节曲折、想象丰富的故事。在观看的同时带来了诙谐幽默，在观看过后留下了不是磨灭不了的记忆，而是有趣的记忆。
这部动漫到底是不错的，要不然连我爸爸这个大忙人都会看，也许记忆会随着时间的流逝而消失，但是曾经的快乐就像好酒，越发的浓厚香醇。我们也许会像动漫中的角色一样，拼命的追逐或者巧妙的反击，但是我们最终得到的是过程中的快乐，留下的也是过程中的快乐。也许快乐的剧情，快乐的音乐，快乐的角色，快乐的人成就了这部动漫。
