随着社会的进步，人民生活水平的提高，铺张浪费、比吃比穿的现象越来越严重了。对于这种情况，我想说：节俭并不是贫穷的人无可奈何的下策，而是每一个人都要努力具备的.美德。
节俭是一种美德，因为节俭体现了一个人对他人劳动成果和人格的尊重。想必每个人小时候都念过这样一首诗吧：“锄禾日当午，汗滴禾下土，谁知盘中餐，粒粒皆辛苦。”不只是“盘中餐”凝结着农民们的辛勤汗水，我们大家的“身上衣”、“手中物”，又有哪一样没有饱含着千万人的辛勤和汗水呢?所以，对这些东西的浪费，就是对他人劳动果实的不尊重，也就是对他人人格的不尊重。因此，反过来说，节俭就是对他人劳动成果的尊重，对他人人格的尊重。
节俭是一种美德，还因为节俭体现了一个人对国家对人类的责任感。一个国家乃至全世界的能源是有限的，绝不是取之不尽，用之不竭的，所以，节约能源是每一个人的职责。爱惜每一滴水，节约每一度电，这是连小学生都懂得的道理。然而有些人却不以为然：房间里空无一人却华灯大放;用起水来不管有无必要，总把笼头开得哗哗的。朋友，你浪费的不仅仅是你个人的钱财，更是国家的资源，整个人类的资源呀!还有，随着世界人口的增长，耕地面积的减少，粮食问题日趋严重。当你若无其事地把吃剩的饭菜倒掉时，你有没有想到世界的某些角落有的人还过着有了上顿没下顿的生活呢?这些不讲节俭、浪费资源、浪费粮食的人正是“身在福中不知福”的毫无责任感的人。而只有那些具有节俭美德的人才是对国家对人类有责任感的人。
古人教诲我们“俭以养德”。在当前改革开放的形势下，提倡节俭这种美德已成为当务之急。让我们都成为具有节俭美德的人，并为在社会上形成“以讲节俭为光荣，以不讲节俭为耻辱”的好风气而努力!
