故宫是龙的世界，龙的造型千姿百态，栩栩如生。在我国封建社会里，皇帝被称做“真龙天子”，是大地的主宰。故宫是明、清两朝的皇宫，因此，宫中的殿堂、桥梁、丹陛、石雕以及帝后宝玺、服饰御用品等无不以龙作为纹饰。那么，故宫里到底有多少龙?恐怕谁也说不清。有人粗算过，故宫号称有宫殿8000多间，仅以每殿有6条龙计算，就有龙近4万条，如果加上所有建筑装饰和一切御用品上的龙，那就数不胜数了。
