夜，格外宁静，皎洁的月光洒在大地上，一切都那么美好、静谧。星星还同往常那样在天空上闪烁，晚风缓缓地吹着，但是，这段时间，花木兰老是坐在织布机旁不停地叹息，织布声稀疏了下来。
花木兰倚靠在织布机旁发呆，心事重重。昨天深夜一纸军队的文告打破了家中的宁静：军书连下十二道，每一道都在催促父亲重新披挂出征。花木兰的眼泪一下子涌了出来，父亲老了，木兰又无哥哥，弟弟处幼尚未成人，保家卫国责无旁贷。她下定决心自己替父从军。
第二清早，花木兰就出门到街头上，买骏马、买马鞍、马笼头、马鞭，忙乎了好一阵子，备齐了战装，然后辞别父母，女扮男装头也不回地走了。早晨辞别了父母，晚上花木兰宿在了黄河边，她听不到爹娘呼唤女儿的声音，听到的只是黄河流水的“哗哗”声。
第二天早上，她辞别了黄河，晚上又宿在黑山头。
经过了十几天的长途跋涉后，花木兰最终来到了燕山脚下，她听到胡人兵马的嘶鸣声。花木兰发誓：为了父母，为了国家，自己一定要全力以赴，战胜敌人！

十几年的拼***，十几年的搏斗，木兰领着胜利的军队归来了，皇上为她举行了盛大的庆功宴。宴席上，皇上为战功卓著的花木兰敬酒：“你功劳不小，赐你做个尚书，行吗？”“不！”花木兰笑着摇摇头：“为祖国付出，这是应该的。我不需要做尚书，谢谢皇上的好意。但是否能给我一匹千里马，送我回家？”皇上用赞赏的目光看着花木兰：“好，既然你这么说，我就赐你一匹千里马。你要回家，我也不强求你了。”说着，叫手下从皇宫里牵出一匹自己最喜欢的千里马赏赐给花木兰，花木兰双手握拳拜谢皇上，然后骑上马走了。
