有一关于鹰的故事也充分说明了高目标学习的重要性。有一天，一个印第安小男孩捡到了一只鹰蛋，便把它放进了松鸡的窝里。后来小鹰和其它小松鸡一起孵了出来，并和它们一起长大。这只小鹰一直以为自己是一只普通的松鸡，所以做什么事情都和其它的松鸡一样。它在土里找虫子和种子吃，从来不永飞而且翅膀扇动起来也很难看，只能飞起几尺，总之，松鸡就应该这样飞。当这只小鹰长大后，有一天看见一只矫健的大鸟，在空中翱翔，它那金色的翅膀那样有力，一振就能穿入云霄。“这只鸟多美啊！这是只什么鸟啊？”这只鹰向身边的一只松鸡问道。“那是一只鸟中之王。”那只松鸡回答说，“但是你在也不要想这件事了，你永远也不能像它那样飞翔。”
结果那只鹰就再也没想过这件事。它从未试图高飞，最多不过拍打几下翅膀，抖抖羽毛而已。一直到死，它心里一直把自己当做是一只松鸡。
在现实生活中有许多人明明是一只鹰却总是把自己看做是一只松鸡，也就只能像一只松鸡那样生活一辈子。
目标对于很多人来说都是很重要的，也可以把目标分成一些小层次来慢慢实现总有一天会实现的就像曾经的一句话说的那样“世上无难事，只怕有心人”。
