“廉将军未曾束衣，恐受风寒，不如先到寒舍稍坐一会儿。”说着便派人将廉颇接近家中。等廉颇束衣系带后，又命人上了干鲜果品，水果蜜饯。廉颇拱手向蔺相如禀道：“上卿真是大人不计小人过，当初我对上卿不敬，上卿如今却仍待我为上宾，真让人敬佩!”蔺相如微笑着，由衷地说：“廉将军英勇善战，忠君爱国，蔺相如本以为习武之人都是有几分顽固之气的，不想将军能如此坦然地面对自己的缺失，又能知错就改，以行动证明自己的悔意，又何尝不是个英雄呢!”廉颇觉得自己和蔺相如相比还有不小的差距，谦虚地说：“文能治国，上卿的胆识与谋略乃常人所不能，这更是廉某所缺少的，以后有何不足之处，还望上卿能指点一二。”蔺相如则赞扬廉颇说：“文虽能治国，但也需武来定国，我们俩以后定要一直对外，安邦定国。”
