到了比赛那天，赛前的观众席里，一道道异样的目光投向男孩，目光里有讥笑，有嘲讽，有愤怒面对一道道冷箭，男孩昂起头，以无比的勇气回敬着，然后坚毅地注视着前方，投入比赛。裁判的一声枪响，男孩以迅雷不及掩耳之势冲出去，比风还快，他向冠军冲去。当就快到终点的时候，一个坐在观众席上的白人向跑道扔了一瓶还没有打开的汽水，砸到了男孩的头，他重重地摔在跑道上，鲜血瞬间从他的头上流下来，比路道还红。眼看白人选手一个个地超过他，此刻他知道与冠军已失之交臂，此刻他知道他辜负了黑人社会给予他的厚望，此刻他知道赛道旁正有许多人等着看黑人的笑话。男孩立刻用尽全身力气爬起来，因为他知道此刻他需要用无比的勇气去面对这突如其来的挫折，他一瘸一拐地走着，跌了再起，起了再跌，到最后的时候，他再也起不来了，他只好用自己的指甲抠着地面艰难地向前爬去，他的指甲破了，流出血来，在赛道上拖出了一百多米的血迹。最后，他终于爬到了终点，观众席上再也没有讥讽与歧视，只剩下欢呼声与掌声。男孩以勇气为黑人赢得了尊严，为自己赢得了敬重。大家都觉得黑人才是真正的第一，给他挂上了第一枚闪光的金牌。
人生难免遭遇挫折，男孩用行动告诉我，用勇气去战胜挫折，这是失败的终点，也将会是辉煌的起点。
