有一位年老的乡绅，他有三个儿子。老大、老二都非常聪明，只有小儿子没有学问，大家都叫他笨汉斯。大儿子、二儿子想去向国王的女儿求婚因为他们很有学问，父亲给他们准备了两匹漂亮的马。笨汉斯也要去，父亲却给他一只公山羊。兄弟三人出发了。
在去皇宫的路上，笨汉斯拣到一只乌鸦，他觉得乌鸦很有意思就决定把乌鸦送给公主。到了皇宫汉斯的哥哥看见他拿着乌鸦还要送给公主，两个哥哥哈哈大笑起来。
大哥二哥先去见了公主，平时他们最有才华了，可一看到公主什么也说不出来了。公主看见大哥二哥语无伦次很生气，就把他们赶出皇宫了。
笨汉斯见到公主后把乌鸦送给了公主，公主非常喜欢。笨汉斯给公主讲了很多有趣的事，公主从没有听过，别提多高兴了。
国王看见公主这样高兴，最后决定把公主嫁给笨汉斯。
读完了笨汉斯，我明白了：其实真正聪明的人应该是勤奋、谦虚的人。我要向他学习。
