在一片大森林里，住着快乐、幸福的小鸡一家。但不幸的是，三天前，鸡爸爸被凶残的豺狼咬死了。鸡妈妈跪在丈夫的坟前，痛苦了起来，并发誓：无论如何，她也要把两只小鸡宝宝拉扯大！如此，毫无收入的鸡妈妈变卖了所有家当，拿起一只新的饭碗和孩子们浪迹天涯……
有吃的，宝宝先吃，有盖的，宝宝先盖，淋雨的是妈妈，吃树***也是妈妈。总之，好处总是给孩子。那只他们赖以生存的饭碗，也随着年月的变迁越来越破旧……
终于有一天，小鸡们长大了，也成了家，却再也不理妈妈了。那曾为了它们而心力交瘁的妈妈，被它们忘了。直到有一天，小鸡们听说妈妈有一笔巨大的财富后，回到了她身边，想得到那些财富。他们不停地巴结母亲。可母亲知道什么孩子会这么做，她只是每当夕阳西下时，会一直看着那只碗，那只承载了回忆的碗。大儿子终于忍不住了：有新的，干嘛用旧的？于是，他把那只碗扔了。
“蹦跶”一声，砸进了鸡妈妈的心。她走出来问：“为什么……”
儿子们说：“老是不死的，新碗高楼你不要，在这儿拉我们受苦？快说，财富在哪儿？”
鸡妈叹了一声说：“我一生带你们浪迹天涯，哪儿会有什么财富？你们摔的，就是我一生最大的财富，它装满了我们家的回忆……
残阳下，两只泪流满面的鸡看着一只年迈的鸡捡碎片的那双血手……
