神舟十一号飞行任务中，景海鹏担任指令长。用他的话来说，“其实就是个牵头人，多操点心。”
景海鹏这样描述指令长的职责：“每天工作结束了，把完成情况写到日志上，并与地面指挥沟通等等。遇到紧急情况，我将代表乘组与地面进行沟通。这是指令长必须承担的责任。”
神舟九号飞行任务中，担任指令长的景海鹏不仅要确保成百上千个指令准确无误地发送，还要组织各类实验有序开展;不仅要严格执行飞行计划，还要调动大家的主观能动性，使大家高效愉快地在天宫一号中工作生活。
这次飞行的时间更长，在轨操作更多，人也少了一个，对乘组的身心素质、工作能力、任务规划等方面要求也更高。
老马识途。拥有丰富飞行的景海鹏，常在训练中对陈冬进行针对性指导以及实用的小建议，比如在失重环境下东西不能随意放、移动身体前必须先找好固定等等。
而“突击小测”更是包括陈冬、刘洋等搭档都领教过的“景式”训练手段：平时训练时，景海鹏会在对方毫无准备的情况下突然抛出问题，考考对方是否所有知识技能都扎实掌握。
陈冬也属马，比景海鹏小一轮。在他眼里，景海鹏是他的榜样，“能与之搭档非常幸运”。
景海鹏的细心周到，也让陈冬印象深刻——
一次演练，景海鹏早早戴好了压力服手套，戴得慢了些的陈冬“压力山大”。这个小细节被景海鹏看在眼里，记到心上。演练结束后，景海鹏悄悄告诉陈冬，以后一定会注意两人步调一致，防止给对方带来无形的压力。
景海鹏坦言，三度飞天的心情“一样，也不一样”。
“高兴激动的.心情都是一样的。但是毕竟经历过两次飞天的考验，经历过18年航天员生涯的磨砺，这次的心态更增加了一份平和、从容、淡定和坚定。”景海鹏说，“我们已经准备好了!请大家放心!”

等待十年圆梦神九
为什么还要飞?这是景海鹏被问的最多的问题。
他微笑着给出了答案：“原因很简单，这就是我的本职工作。如果我干别的，那叫不务正业。”
景海鹏属马。虽为老骥，志却不止千里。
“一个人每个阶段都有梦想。人的一辈子是由各个时期大小不同的梦想串起来的。一个目标实现了之后，一定会确立一个新的目标。如果一个人实现目标后就无所事事了，我觉得这是非常可怕的事情。”他说。
上高中时，偶然间看到一张飞行员照片的景海鹏，萌生了“我要当飞行员”的志向。得知航天员选拔的消息后，已经当了13年飞行员的他，又开始憧憬“力争成为一名航天员”。
1998年1月，景海鹏如愿成为中国首批航天员。从那时起，飞天便成为他的梦想。
十年等待，一朝梦圆。“2008年我的飞天梦想实现后，我就把新目标瞄上了神舟九号飞行任务。梦想又一次实现后，很多人问，你还训练吗?我就笑说，不训练我干啥。”景海鹏说，“因为我的下一个梦想又萌生了，那就是备战神舟十一号飞行任务。”
“只有这样，人才有追求，才活得充实。”他说，虽然航天员这个职业有风险有挑战，但“我热爱这个职业”。
事实上，这个生在农村、黄土地上长大的山西运城人，还有着更大的动力——回报祖国的栽培。
“我一个农村娃实现了一个又一个梦想，都是国家培养的结果。”景海鹏说，“我要回报国家。可怎么才是回报国家呢?就是多执行任务，把所有在地面实现不了的，通过航天员在太空实现，从而造福全人类。”
重游璀璨星空，俯瞰美丽家园，对景海鹏而言已不再像当初那般新奇。他说：“这次，就一门心思准备好任务，争取不留遗憾。”
