作文如作战，不能战线过长，全面出击，而要集中兵力，从“点”上突破。口子小，目标准，浓墨重彩，走笔成文，就可避免面面俱到、泛泛而谈之弊病，收到以小见大、立意深刻之效果。比如：文学巨匠茅盾在生命弥留之际正式向党中央提出请求，希望成为一名光荣的中国共产党党员。有个同学写纪念文章时，就抓住这一侧面，展开透彻的议论。他把茅盾在生命的最后时刻给党中央的信看做他一生创作的继续，十分精当地把它称做“最后的‘作品’”，深情地赞扬了茅盾执着地追求真理的高洁志向。由于口子小，议得透，见解就颇为深刻。
3.开掘要深。
孟子有言：“譬如掘井，掘井九仞，而不及泉，犹为弃井也。”隔行不隔理，作文也须深加开掘，方可确立深刻的论点。比如：读了达芬奇画蛋的故事，许多人在提出“要苦练基本功”的论点之后往往也就止步不前了。而作家秦牧则不同，他的《画蛋练功》一文，在阐述了打好基础、苦练基本功的基础上，又进而提出了“画蛋、练功这样的事情，应该包含在艺术工作者整整一生中”的中心论点。由于他没有浅尝辄止，而是在深入开掘上狠下工夫，所以他所提出的论点也就更显得格外深刻了。
