炎炎夏日，艾玛正和她的朋友打水仗。突然，庄园主的声音在广播里响着：“因为庄园内水资源缺乏，所以欧蒂利丝庄园停水一个月，请各位做好准备。”
艾玛愣了一下，飞快地跑去花园，拧开水龙头，却发现一滴水也没有流出来，艾玛瘫坐在地上，双眼无神地看向前方，咒骂声在庄园里弥漫开来：“天呐，庄园主为什么不早说，我们都还没准备好呢！”“哇！没有水，我们怎么办啊，天气这么热，干什么都需要水，洗漱要用水，整理卫生要用水，煮饭要水，洗澡要水，庄园主又不让我们走出庄园，这可怎么办才好啊？”艾玛叫了几个朋友，到庄园里寻找水源。他们呢把找到的四箱矿泉水，平均分给了庄园中的人。
一个星期过去了，艾玛正瘫在床上，一动不动，想节省体力，尽量不用水，此时，她最害怕有人来找她借水，她的水是全庄园最多的，但是，到目前她的水也不多了。阳光把她身上的水一点一点地蒸发掉，使她不得不做起来，又喝了一口水。
一个月过去了，最后半瓶水也被喝完了，艾玛舔了舔干***嘴唇，决定再等一会儿。她在迷糊中听见庄园主说：“庄园内发现了一处新的饮用水源。庄园不再停水了。”艾玛一下子冲到了水池边，大口大口地喝起了可饮用的水。

the summer vacation had come round again. i was happy that i could forget about school at least for a while. lest i fool around all through this summer vacation, i made a plan as to how to spend it. first, i thought i should go over all those things my teachers taught in the previous term so that i could have a better understanding of them.
then i thought i should take up some forms of exercise, such as walking, running and rowing, to keep me physically strong. it stood to reason that with such a good plan i should make the best of my vacation time. i did, because i lived up to what i had planned.

一个小时内，便利店、超市、水库……都挤满了人，可是，他们看见每扇门上面都贴着一张纸，上面写着：本店今日停业，一个星期后开业。“人们开始不耐烦了，拿起身边的物品砸门，有人甚至开来了挖土机，把店给拆了，也见不到一滴水，但是有钱人就不一样了，他们一张机票，到美国、俄罗斯、英国等去买水喝……
一个星期内，人们的身体都变得干巴巴的，湖里、河里、溪里的水都被人们喝干了。有些人因为太渴就抓起湖里、河里、溪里的鱼，开始饮起他们的血，甚至还喝起自己的血，活像一个”吸血鬼“……突然，市长对着话筒说：”市民们，我接到上级通知，得知在森林的深处有一股瀑布……\"人们听了像发了疯的狗一样，朝森林跑去。
从那件事后，人们开始节约用水了。
