勉强形容心境，有时候是自讨苦吃的；好吧，还是说些事实较为痛快。
从六月底，我就离开重庆，到西北绕了个不小的圈子；直到十二月中旬才回来。五个多月，没有给您写稿子，也没有给任何朋友写稿子。十年来，这是第一次脑子放假，完全作肉食动物的生活差不多半年！路上相当的辛苦，见了炕就想快睡，所以没法写作。加以，所见到的事虽是那么多，但是走马看花，并没看清楚任何一件；假若写出来，定是一笔胡涂账，就不如不写。因此，路上不能动笔，归来不想动笔，都是真情实话。
生平能有几次这样的机会，一气走两万里呢？这么一想，可就自然而然的愿作出点东西来，留个纪念。但是，怎么写呢？写游记，我不内行；我没有达夫兄那样的笔。写故事，又并没听到什么。写报告，我最不注意数目字，而数目字又不是可以随便画的。写戏剧，不会。于是，想来想去，我觉得还是写一首长诗，比较有些偷手：什么都可以容纳，什么又都可以“暂且不提”。好，我就决定要写长诗。
可是，自从进了重庆，直到今天，我的长诗还没有头一个字。文协的会务，在我远征的期间，都仗着留在会里的友人们热心支持；我回来了，理当和他们换换班。这就花去许多时间。事情虽未必作得出，更不要说作得好，可是多跑腿，总显着合于有力出力的说法。此外，还须时时参加别的团体的会议；因文协是个民众团体，团体也有团体的朋友啊。跑路开会都是费时间的事，而时间又是那么铁面无私，决不给任何人一点情面，多借出一块几来。
在这么乱忙之中，还要写文章，因为不写就没有饭吃。啊！我可以想象到，看到这里，您必定笑了——这家伙可说走了嘴！敢情他不是不写，而是写了不给“我”呀！对，有您这么一想！不过，您还得听我慢慢的说。
现在写文章，简直是“挤”，不是“写”。战时首都的刊物与报纸，自然比别处多一些，那么要文章的地方也就多一些。这，其实也好办；要文章在他，写不写在我；我本用不着生挤硬作。不过，我并没有那个自由。要文章的既都是朋友，而且相距不远，可以时时来索取。好，我只有硬挤乱凑，别无办法。今天凑一千字一篇；明天凑一千五百字，又算一篇。写着十分伤心，不写又无法吃饭；我名之曰文章凌迟，死而后已！
您看，您是那么远，无从来坐索，怎能得到稿子呢？我并没忘了您，也没忘了应写些象样的\'东西，可是我长不出另一只手来，可以多写；也长不出另一个脑子，能够既快且好，
您也许说，不会找个清静地方藏起去吗？不行，我不能藏起去。说真的，我心里老这么想：今日的文艺不应离开抗战，今日的文艺工作者也不应图清静而离开社会。入山修道，我的文艺生活便脱了节。我的作品已被凌迟，不错；可是，我究竟没有闲着：写鼓词也好，写旧剧也好，有人要我就写，有用于抗战我就写。这样，写的不好是实情，我的心气可因此而越来越起劲；我觉得我的一段鼓词设若能鼓励了一些人去拚命抗战，就算尽了我的微薄的力量。假若我本来有成为莎士比亚的本事，而因为乱写粗制，耽误了一个中国的莎士比亚，我一点也不后悔伤心。是的，伟大作品的感动力强，收效必大，我知道。可是，在今日的抗战军民中，只略识之无，而想念书看报的正不知有多少万；能注意到他们，也不算错误。再说，在后方大都市里，书籍刊物的确是不少，但是前方的情形便大不相同一一大家简直找不到东西念。因此，顾及质的提高，固然有理；可是顾及量的增加，也不算罪过。我不能自居为多产的作家，因为事忙体弱，并不能下笔万言。我只求自己不偷懒，虽不能埋头写作，可是有工夫就写一点，希望所写的多少有点益处。
近来物价高涨，生活较前更为困难。不过，非到万不得已时，我总不至于放弃作家生活，而去干别的营业。请您放心，我一定有那么一天，给您寄点看得过去的东西；您应代为祷告：别生病，别改行！

第二次龟兔赛跑开始了，狮子做评判，而其他的小动物为它们打气，而终点就在一条小河的后面（只有穿过小河才能到终点）。
龟兔在比赛的过程中跨过许多地方，而乌龟有些地方跨不过，兔子看见了就对乌龟说：“乌龟，我看你还是认输吧，走的这么慢，最后的胜利肯定属于我的`。”乌龟没有听它的话，而是继续的向前爬。兔子心里很害怕，因为它不会游泳，它绞尽脑汁最后只好趴在地上哭呀哭！许多小动物都安慰它。正当小动物安慰兔子的时候，乌龟赶上来了，看见了这个情景，就对兔子说：“兔子，你不要哭了，我背你过去吧。”兔子看见乌龟这样说，心里说不出话来，兔子坐在乌龟背上脸胀得通红，想起刚才自己嘲笑乌龟，心里特别难受。最后，乌龟与兔子手拉手抵达啦终点！
狮子评判对兔子说：“一个人不能骄傲自满。”而狮子把奖发给乌龟，因为乌龟把友谊放在第一，比赛放在第二。所以第二场比赛龟兔赛跑兔子任然输了。最后在乌龟的一再要求下狮子裁判宣布“由于乌龟的一再要求，我宣布本次龟兔赛跑，兔子和乌龟并列第一！”但是这并不重要啦，因为它和乌龟成为啦好朋友！
